Altrad are seeking an experienced and proactive Fire Safety Advisor to support the management and delivery of fire safety across MEHA areas of responsibility at Hinkley Point C.
The role will be based in Bridgwater and will be responsible for ensuring fire safety standards are established, consistently maintained and effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with MEHA construction and delivery teams, contractors and other site stakeholders, you will provide specialist fire safety advice and guidance in accordance with NNB Work Authorisation procedures, relevant legislation and project-specific requirements.
Key Deliverables / Accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of NNB site processes and procedures relating to fire safety, ensuring advice and guidance provided to MEHA operations remains compliant with NNB requirements.
- Provide advice, guidance and support to MEHA operational areas on all matters relating to fire safety.
- Ensure fire safety standards are maintained across all areas of the construction site where MEHA has responsibility.
- Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice and NNB project-specific fire safety requirements.
- Provide expert fire safety advice to MEH teams, contractors and project stakeholders.
- Act as a key point of contact for fire safety queries and support across the project.
- Promote a proactive and positive fire safety culture throughout the site.
- Engage with contractors and delivery teams to embed fire safety awareness, good practice and appropriate controls.
- Conduct regular fire safety audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Document audit and inspection findings and ensure appropriate corrective actions are identified, implemented and followed through.
- Support the completion of fire risk assessments with assessors across the site, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, evaluated and mitigated.
- Maintain accurate fire safety records and ensure assessments are reviewed and updated as required.
- Provide relevant data, information and insights to support effective decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Provide operational support and risk information to the on-site Fire & Rescue Team.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure emergency preparedness and response arrangements are robust and effective.
- Identify opportunities to improve fire safety practices, processes and systems across the project.
- Lead or contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing fire safety performance across the MEHA organisation.
- Share knowledge, best practice and lessons learned to drive consistency and excellence across the project.
- Provide localised fire safety support at area level and advocate for communities of best practice within the organisation.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate; or
- Certificate in Fire Safety Level 4 (Fire Auditors); or
- Diploma in Fire Safety Level 4 (Fire Inspector); or
- CIOB Certificate in Fire Safety in Construction.
- Fire Risk Assessment Certification Level 3.
- Previous experience in fire safety within the construction industry or other high-risk and complex environments.
- Strong understanding of fire safety legislation, standards, risk assessment and auditing processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and guidance to operational teams and contractors.
- Ability to work proactively and collaboratively within a complex, multidisciplinary construction environment.
- Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
